Cannabis Industry Regulation: Assurance is Everything

Paying for Assurance Protects Your Health:
Paying more for legal cannabis is worth it.  Street cannabis may be cheaper, but consuming it may put you at unnecessary risk for exposure to toxic contaminants or dangerous additives.
Laboratory testing of cannabis products in the legal industry ensures:
  • Products are free from contaminants
  • Product ingredients are visible on the label so you know what's being consumed
Your dealer could never do that!
Cannabis Industry Regulation

Behind Every Legal Product is a Certified Testing Lab...

Cannabis itself isn’t inherently dangerous — but contaminants can be.

Legal products are tested by certified labs for:
Certified Testing Lab
Pesticide Residues
Pesticide Residues
Pesticides can cause injury to the lungs and nervous system, especially with repeated exposure over time.
Did You Know?
Even indoor cannabis can test positive for pesticides--chemicals may linger in soils, sneak in through ventilation ducts, or carry over from contaminated fertilizers.
Toxic Metals
Toxic Metals
Heavy metals like lead, arsenic, and cadmium can build up in the body over time, causing damage to the brain, kidneys, and immune system.
Did You Know?
Cannabis root systems act like natural sponges, pulling up metals and other chemical contaminants from soil, water, or nutrient mixes and storing them in high concentrations in the plant.
Mold & Bacteria
Mold & Bacteria
Harmful microbes like E. coli, Salmonella, or Aspergillus can cause serious infections, especially in people with weakened immune systems.
Did You Know?
Warm, humid grow rooms are perfect incubators for yeast and mold.  Even a few stray spores can thrive and multiply in dense cannabis flowers or areas of the canopy that don't get enough air flow.
Leftover Solvents
Leftover Solvents
Breathing in leftover solvents used in the extraction process to produce concentrates can irritate the lungs and lead to dizziness, headaches, and other toxicity.
Did You Know?
If the extraction process that makes your vape oil or other concentrate isn't done properly, dangerous chemical solvents like propane or butane that are used in that process could be left behind in your product.

Misleading Product Labels
High Risk of Overconsumption
Neglect of Wellness-Driven Consumers
Stronger  ≠  Better
The obsession with THC potency in cannabis retail is a marketing tactic to get you to spend more, and it's creating serious industry problems...

Cannabis Product Labels,

Decoded.

Consumers often get overwhelmed by cannabis product labels - lots of numbers without any context to understand what they mean.  PowerLeaf explains the numbers with intensity scales so consumers can compare ingredient potencies to those of other products in the market of the same type.
Cannabis Product Labels
Ingredient Potencies
Percentages show the strength and balance of product ingredients, helping you understand its overall effect. PowerLeaf's potency meters give meaning to the numbers
Terpene breakdowns
Indicate aroma and mood influence, giving clues to how the product may feel.
Testing lab certification
Confirms safety, quality, and compliance with legal standards.
Harvest/testing dates
Reveal freshness, since potency and flavor fade over time.
Medication Interactions
Medication Interactions
Cannabis can interact with prescription medications, affecting how either works. Talk to your doctor about possible effects on your prescriptions.
Smoking
Smoking
Smoking cannabis with a flame can harm your lungs like cigarettes. If you prefer flower, try an herbal vaporizer—lower heat and smokeless vapor are gentler on your lungs.
Pregnancy & breastfeeding
Pregnancy & breastfeeding
Avoid cannabis use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, since exposure to cannabinoids through the  bloodstream and breast milk can cause harm to your baby.
Cannabis isn’t lethal
but it’s not risk-free.
Mental Health Risk
Mental Health Risk
Prolonged use of high-potency THC products has been linked to psychosis in individuals with genetic risk.
Dependence & Addiction
Dependence & Addiction
Frequent use of high dose THC can lead to dependence and addiction.  Increased tolerance to THC effects is a warning sign.
Youth Exposure
Youth Exposure
The brain isn't fully 'wired' until age 25.  Significant use of cannabis before age 21 can affect personality and brain development.

Consume Responsibly

Start low, go slow
Start low, go slow
Cannabis can affect everyone differently.  Products come in different forms, and each form has a particular time to onset and duration of effect.  If you're a new consumer, or are trying a new type of product, start with a low dose (1/2 breath inhale, 2.5 - 5mg of edible) and wait to feel the extent of the effects for the right amount of time (5 mins for inhale, up to 2 hrs for edible) before you decide to dose a little more.
Take tolerance breaks
Take tolerance breaks
Requiring higher doses to feel the same effect from a product over time can be a sign of developing dependence or addiction. Try to make it a point to take time off from consuming every now and then, unless you rely on cannabis medicinally.  Adding CBD to your experiences in a 1:1 ratio with THC can also slow down the tolerance effect.
Choose balanced
THC:CBD ratios
Choose balanced THC:CBD ratios
High potency products can have side effects like 'the jitters' or paranoia.  One out of every 6 people has genetics that can make them very sensitive to THC, even at very low doses.  Consuming fixed-ratio products with CBD in at least a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio to THC can smooth out that experience to make it enjoyable.
Avoid illicit or
synthetic products
Avoid illicit or synthetic products
Street cannabis and 'hemp-derived' THC products aren't always tested, and could be unsafe.  The hemp-THC (a.k.a. delta-8) market side-skirts regulatory testing through loopholes in the law, so be wary of products you can buy legally at a gas station or convenience store.  Even online CBD products aren't always tested to verify potency or purity.  Buy lab-tested products for safety.
